Frog Life Cycle Craft for Kids

A frog's life cycle is fascinating especially to preschoolers. This recycled craft is perfect for reviewing a frog's life cycle with kids. It is easy for the children to transform the tadpole into a frog as they retell the process in their own words. This is perfect for a preschool unit on spring!

Eggs to tadpoles to frogs! We used recycled materials to create this transforming craft.

Frist, we cut a bit of large sized bubble wrap to be our frog eggs. Our preschooler used a Sharpie to draw the black dot in the middle of the clear eggs which was authentic pre-writing practice for her.

She painted an egg carton section green for the body of our tadpole turned frog.

Spring Preschool Theme

We love these foam paintbrushes for crafting!

We used pipe cleaners to make the frog's legs. We discussed how many legs a frog has and which ones emerge first.

I cut a tail from craft foam. I used scissors to cut a slit in the back end of the frog for his tail. I used a hole punch for our preschooler to put the frog's legs in herself.

First our frog has only a tail as a tadpole. Next she grows hind legs.

Our preschooler was quick to point out that our frog was a female because she was going to lay eggs to complete the life cycle! How observant!

Our favorite part of this egg carton frog craft is that kids can personally transform the frog by adding the legs and shortening the tail of the frog. This is fantastic fine motor practice

Our daughter loved retelling and reviewing the metamorphosis for her dad when he got home using her craft as a prop. I can just imagine how excited a whole class of preschoolers would be to take these home to demonstrate what they've learned!

Finally the adult frog has four legs and no tail. She returns to the pond to lay more frog eggs completing the life cycle!
